Is your child starting school in September 2018?

If your child was born between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014 they will be due to start school at either an infant or primary school in September 2018.

The quickest and easiest way to apply for a school place is online.
Visit: www.surreycc.gov.uk/admissions to access the online application form and more information on the application process.

You can start your online application at any time from 30th October 2017 but you must have completed it by 15th January 2018.

The following admissions criteria will be used by the LA to allocate places if a school is oversubscribed.

  • First priority: Looked after and previously looked after children
  • Second priority: Exceptional social/medical need
  • Third priority: Children who will have a sibling at the school
  • Fourth priority: Children for whom the school is the nearest to their home address
  • Fifth priority: Any other children

Waiting lists: Where there are more applicants than places available, waiting lists will operate for each year group according to oversubscription criteria for each school without regard to the date the application was received or when a child's name was added to the waiting list.

Nursery Admissions Policy

If you would like to register for a place at Walton Oak Nursery, you will need to complete a ‘Nursery Admissions Form’ or call at the school office for a copy of the form.  You will also need to bring with you your child’s birth certificate. You can register your child once they have turned 18 months old.

Nursery places are offered using Surrey County Council admission criteria as a guideline.

  • First Priority: Children with exceptional arrangements / special educational needs
  • Second Priority: Children who will have siblings attending the school upon entry to the Nursery
  • Third Priority: The child’s date of birth in relation to the curriculum year available. (There are 78 places available in the Nursery (1 class of 39 in the morning 8.45 – 11.45 for the younger children and 1 class of 39 in the afternoon 12.15 – 3.15pm for the older children).
  • Fourth priority: Children for whom the school is nearest (distance measured in a straight line from the address point of the pupil’s house, as set out by Ordnance Survey to the front gate of the school).

Letters will be sent out offering places and there will be a timescale for people to accept or decline the place. If places are declined, further letters will be sent out offering those places to the next eligible children. The process will continue until all 78 places are filled.

Any applicants who have been unsuccessful will be placed on a waiting list.

If you accept a place for your child in our Nursery, this does not guarantee admission into the school’s Reception year. You still have to apply for a Reception place along with other parents who do not have a place in the Nursery.
