Sports Day

Each summer, children take part in our annual Sports Day.  We usually hold a Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 Sports Day at the end of June, then a separate Nursery and Reception Sports Day around the start of July.  The Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children all wear a t-shirt that is the same colour as their House (red, yellow, green or blue) and participate in a range of athletics style activities.  The winning House lifts the Sports Day trophy at the end of the day!

Overall Sports Day Results 2019

Many congratulations to J K Rowling on winning Sports Day for the fourth time in nine years!  Just 31 points separated first and second place, with last year's winners Jacqueline Wilson finishing second, Roald Dahl were third and Anthony Browne finished fourth.

Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 Sports Day 2019 - Report

The colours red, yellow, blue and green were out in force on Friday 28th June for our annual Sports Day.  Like last year, we didn't have to worry about the rain, we had to worry about the amount of sun and heat we had!  Our shiny Sports Day trophy awaited the combined winners of both the Key Stage 2 (in the morning) and Key Stage 1 (in the afternoon) Sports Days.  The question was, who would win?  Would Jacqueline Wilson retain the trophy that they won last year, or would Anthony Brown or Roald Dahl cause an upset?

Some of the activities that the children took part in included: the 30m shuttle run, high jump, standing long jump, chest push, overhead heave, vortex throw, javelin throw, speed bounce, 5 strides, hoop sling, shot put and the standing triple jump.  Children were awarded points for their performance at each activity.  The faster they ran, the more points they received.  The higher they jumped or the further they threw, the greater number of points were awarded to them and their House.

After both the morning and afternoon sessions were completed, the points were added up.  The result was a brilliant victory for J. K. Rowling who have now the trophy four times in the past nine years.  They won with a grand total of 5,171 points.  Jacqueline Wilson were only 31 points behind the winners with 5,140 points to take second spot this year.  Roald Dahl finished in third place on 4,808 points, ahead of Anthony Browne who finished in fourth place with 4,603 points.  A massive congratulations to every member of J. K. Rowling on their efforts; the Sports Day trophy will now be engraved and on display in the trophy cabinet shortly.

We must say a very big thank you to every member of staff who helped out on the day, without you the day does not happen.  Thank you so much to Lewis Newton, Alesio Pacitti and Mrs Courtney who worked incredibly hard to get all the results for us all.  Thank you to all our Year 6 pupils who helped to run the Key Stage 1 Sports Day in the afternoon, you were all amazing.  Finally, a big thank you to all the parents and family members who came to cheer their children on.  We hope you enjoyed the day and look forward to seeing you in 2020.
