Making Chocolate Truffles

As out topic in year 5 is Mexico, we have been learning about the Mayan people. The Mayans were the first people to use cocoa beans to make chocolate. They used the beans to make a drink called ‘Xocolatl’.

We have been learning the difference between the Mayans ‘Xocolatl’ and our chocolate today. We got to taste different chocolates and make our own chocolate truffles! Here’s how we did it.

First, we planned what kind of chocolate, flavouring and coating we wanted. The, we got the bar of chocolate we wanted and broke the pieces into a bowl, where we melted it over some warm water. The teachers then gave us the cream to mix in. After that, we added our flavour; we could choose between mint, caramel, or orange! We stirred the chocolate, cream and flavourings mixture until it was smooth, then we placed it in the fridge to cool.

After two hours, we took the mixture out of the fridge. We got a spoon and scooped up a reasonable amount, and rolled it in the coating until the chocolate was completely covered. We did that until we had used all of our chocolate. We then placed the truffles back in the fridge and got to take them home to enjoy at the end of the day!

We have also created adverts for our chocolate truffles.
